FAQ

Questions and answers

How much does home window replacement cost?

Typical U.S. prices run roughly $300 to $1,500 per window, installed. Size, frame material, glass type and the shape of the opening all change the number. Say you want energy efficient windows for a sunny, dry-season house: coated glass costs more up front. Prices vary by job, so ask each provider for a written quote and compare line by line.

How long does it take to replace windows?

Many providers finish a typical house in one to three days once the windows arrive. Custom-made windows can take several weeks to be built. Say you order in spring: plan the install before the winter rain events start. Request a callback to check provider availability, then ask for a realistic schedule in writing.

How do I keep new windows in good shape?

Wash the glass and frames a couple of times a year with mild soap and water. Wildfire smoke leaves fine soot, so rinse tracks and sills after smoke season. Clear the small drain slots at the bottom of each frame. Check the caulk every fall. Say you spot a tiny gap: reseal it early, before rain finds it.

Is vinyl siding a good choice for my home?

Vinyl siding is popular because it is light, comes in many colors and needs little upkeep. It never needs paint, which helps in long dry seasons that fade paint. It can warp near very hot spots, such as a grill set too close to the wall. Residential siding contractors in our network can talk through your options.

Do energy efficient windows really lower my bills?

They can help. Double-pane glass with a low-E coating slows heat as it moves through the window. In mild coastal weather the savings may be modest. In hot inland summers they can be larger. Results vary by house, so ask a provider what to expect for your home.

Is it safe to stay home during window replacement?

Often, yes. Providers usually work one window at a time, so most rooms stay closed up through the day. Move furniture and curtains back a few feet, and keep kids and pets in another room. Ask your provider about dust and noise before the work begins.

Can I replace just one window?

You can, but referrals through Fantasyunion Windows & Siding are for projects with at least two windows. Many providers set a minimum job size anyway. Say one bedroom window is drafty and another one sticks: bundling them makes a visit worthwhile. Fantasyunion Windows & Siding also does not connect repair-only jobs.

Will my insurance help pay for new windows?

Some policies may cover sudden damage, such as a branch through the glass. Age, wear and slow leaks are usually not covered. Coverage depends on your policy, so read it and ask your insurer before work starts. Providers can often help document damage for a claim with photos and notes. Keep the written quote and photos in one folder, since your insurer may ask for them.
